Forgot how to dial the combination on that old safe? Think you got the right numbers but the handle is stuck? What safe should you buy? Ask your safe questions here!

S&G dial with spline on 50

Postby 8550jim » 2 Jan 2024 10:48

I see some S&G dials for sale with the spline at number 50. I am not familiar with any lock that uses this or any mounting method that uses this. Can someone educate me on this? thanks

50 is quite normal. On the S&G drive cams is the RH slot opposite of the gate. So when the dial is at 0 the spline key is down below and the drive cam's gate is up, so thate fence lever can fall in.

I thought the normal was 41, but I have seen 50 and even 60 and don't understand why the difference.

On 8559's and 2937's you might see it at about 22.

LG has now 43 and they could have had 41 in the past.

I honestly don't see what the big deal is-- if the end result is not to your liking, just pull the spline key and either tighten or loosen the drive cam one position & reset the combo. Seems like it has worked for me in the past, when someone wanted a 'forbidden zone' combo-- Just change where the forbidden zone is at

The dials vault locks are splined at 60. The normal spline key location for 6730 is 41, although S&G had an option at one point for dials splined at 50. I'm not sure why, perhaps something to do with the 0 change stuff?

I have one of each.
