Info needed-what affordable Change Key will fit out safe?

Postby jimtmcdaniels » 19 Feb 2024 1:06

Hi,

It doesn't look like our used dial safe came with a combo change key. I'd like to purchase an affordable one, to keep behind the 5 screws cover on the backside of the safe door, for future use.

Does anyone might know what change key type will fit it?..

I know it's a 3 numbers safe. I see keys online/ebay/amazon for S & G, LaGard, and other brands.
Even a $10 generic key on Aliexpress: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/32568047 ... pt=glo2usa

Here's our safe's details:

*The Dial Tumbler Box label says: “Lock1one”, Model 2020, Group 2, 17 PH, 2007-09. Amsec Safe, made in china.
The change key hole on the back of the tumbler box has the funny looking arrow.

Combination Mechanical Dial Safe w/Front Load Depository Drop Hopper -
AMSEC(American Security Products Co) Model# DSF2014C
B-Rated Construction. 79 LBS, Interior .88 cu.ft.

1 page Manual:
https://americansecuritysafes.com/wp-co ... -Locks.pdf

Here is what the safe looks like:

Thank you for any help

As they say, a picture is worth one thousand words.

Please show us a photo of the keyhole on the back cover of your lock. A photo of the actual keyhole please, not a google search result that "looks just like it"

Thank you sir,

This company is now called Big Red Safe Locks. They have listed here distributors: http://bigredsafelocks.com/contact-us/
In case you get one of these the normal S&G change keys should fit this lock too.

Cool thank you
WELL I SEE THIS PAGE on big red concerning what I think is the lock, says a Sargent and Greenleaf change key fits it. It doesn’t mention the other brand fitting it:

They make also their own change keys, which fit too.

Ok ok

Thanks guys !

I also found these instructions for doing a change with the key for Big Red 3 combo locks:
https://www.manualslib.com/manual/28090 ... Cdl-3.html

Oddly it doesn’t say there are any forbidden ending/last combo number range.

Getting things done yes
Ha I may have to start a new post next on the abandoned Sentry Model V330 safe with no combo and probably no key, that’s in the restaurant’s basement corner ...

Thanks again

It says about the forbidden zone on page 2.
When the safe dial is splined/index to the spindle at #41, do not use a number between "95" and "15" for the third (or
last) number of the combination. When the safe dial is splined/index to the spindle at #50, do not use a number
between "0" and "20" for the third (or last) number of the combination.

Thank you your right I was wrong. It does state those forbidden zones.
Cool.
I ordered the change key.
Thanks again.

I think we may have found the key for the abandoned Sentry V330 safe. Now to manipulate it(per YouTube videos) to find the 3 number combo if I have time. The 4 spline key is the handle on that older one.

For the Sentry safe, without a key found, we were dead in the water to try to manipulate the safe combo.
Ended up getting 2 replacement keys and the combo revealed by Sentry for $65. Luckily the safe model & serial were on the outside side sticker. And when we called(site said to if the 2 digit key code not available), they had record of the key code. Better than cutting the safe up to unbolt it from the floor and wall. Now we have an alright safe to use elsewhere.
Thought I'd share here for the experience and record.
Take care.

Thank you for stopping by to follow up, and glad to hear it all worked out without cutting up the safe!

Thanks

I've seen people on YouTube destroy safes.
We grown up adults are here to build for a better world, not destroy it. Why destroy when we can build?
The steel safe will probably outlive us all, to serve our children.

Take care
