Harrods vintage safe - help required please

Postby chibby » 12 Mar 2024 14:25

Hi - I am new to this forum and would be grateful for some guidance

I recently purchased a vintage Harrods safe from auction & am wondering if anyone recognises the manufacturer from the photo, and also any information regarding age , original use ... etc

On inspection i was disappointed to find that all of the tumblers were missing which was very disappointing, can replacements or blanks be purchased as i would like it to be fully functional?

PLease see the attached image of the safe https://ibb.co/hKWHsSW

Many thanks,
Chris

Hi, The locks reminds me of Ratner. I will look if I can really confirm it.

Nah, not Ratner. This is a standard UK safe design. Samuel Withers, Thomas Withers, Sentry (no idea how much they have to do with the US Sentry) and others look very similar. Could be that there was one company that made all these and they were sold under many brands. Could be, that there were indeed so many companies producing safes of this design. I would contact safe techs and ask them if the have a lock. I would provide them information about size, thickness, screw positions. It might also be possible to use levers from other, more modern locks.
