My Latest Acquisition - Early Variant Victor Manganese Safe

Forgot how to dial the combination on that old safe? Think you got the right numbers but the handle is stuck? What safe should you buy? Ask your safe questions here!

My Latest Acquisition - Early Variant Victor Manganese Safe

I bought it locked. It had a Yale lock in it that obviously was retrofit. I removed it nondestructively. I also pulled the deadbolt that blocks the gear drive.

The holes drilled in the front cover were drilled from the inside and threaded to accommodate the retrofit lock. Seems like senseless vandalism to me. There was certainly no reason to take them all the way through. The ones behind the dial aren't really an issue, but the one hanging out is. I contemplate the benefits of welding it and grinding it flush vs just filling it with putty.

I lifted it from the bed of the truck with my crane and a strap. The first strap (WLL 3333lbs) broke and the safe fell a foot or so and acted similarly to a wrecking ball on the bed of the truck....
Image
It has the original 'Bankers Dustproof Timelock' and someone obviously didn't latch the cover and the cover is broken off.
Image
Much more disturbing was the Badger Safe Protector greeting me when I opened the door.... Apparently not terribly sensitive since it didn't trigger when the safe was dropped.
Image
I guess the question I have is whether I should repaint it or leave it as is.

Let's see if I can do a better job making the pics part of the post-

Please note the [image] command doesn't work to display the entire imgbb.com website with your photo embedded in the middle of it. The image tags can only display a .jpg, .gif, .png or .bmp file so you have to have the direct URL to the exact photo file like this link:

https://i.ibb.co/SNMcVS3/20240414-124040.jpg (How do I get this direct link? Right Click the picture while on the imgbb.com website and select "Copy image address")

Now I can wrap that in [image] tags and it will show like this:

Code: Select all

Thanks. I'm working from my phone. Bear with me...

Edit - Thanks for the photo tutorial. I think I'm doing that correctly now.
