Replacement Spindle for a Vintage In-Floor Door

I've got an old Major in-floor safe lid, with a broken dial. Did the old manufacturers use a uniform spindle size, or were various sizes and thread pitches used? I.e. can I expect a modern spindle with dial to fit?

Your lid is the old style round door (oval sticker). New style had the square sticker. Old style round door used 3 S&G hand change wheels, driver in back. There were some with S&G key change wheel pack. The new style used LaGard wheel packs. I believe they have the same footprint. I think a modern dial/spindle will fit, unless Murphy shows up.
