Opening safes is something you will not find in the regular forum. However, I will say that most safes are opened by feel, not sound, hence your "doctor 'heart beating thing" will not help much. I highly suggest you buy a dial to a safe and open it up. Safe dials can be found "cheap" on ebay if you're interested. If you are serious about opening safes then years of practice and hours of strenous work must be done before you can consistantly open safes.
Lock picking is an art, not a means of entry.

What you need to do is place the heart beat thingy on the back of the safe as that is where they put the locking mechanism, this is a little known fact. Now rotate the dial slowly clockwise counting the "clicks". If you cant hear the clicks reposition your tool. Keeping counting the "clicks" until you get to 200 then repeat in the other direction very slowly until you hear a "thud"

The thud is the thing to listen out for,it will be your head hitting the floor as you fall asleep

Seriously this a skill that takes years to learn hence the name "safes"

I think you guys missed the point here.

Vlaraway, first thing you need to do is find out if there is any hardplate in the safe. This is important. Put your doctor's heart beat thingie on the front of the safe (not the back, that's just silly) then strike the front door of the safe with a hammer at a point about 3 inches to the right of the dial and just listen through your heart beat thingie to see if the tone is a C sharp or a G flat. That will tell you what you need to know.

Try it and report back.

The best things to do is learn the basic mechanics of a safe. You can't really listen to a safe and open it. Although listening could be helpful in some conditions, I suggest you buy a few safe dials and take a look at them.

Howstuffworks.com gives a somewhat brief explanation of how safe cracking works.

If you google it you will sure to be able to find more information.
