Wooden Safe

So I have been having a conversation with my wife about how we should purchase a safe for all the usual reason. She starts to tell me about how at one point she was going to buy me a safe and did extensive research into wooden safes... Obviously it wouldn't be say chainsaw proof but would be fire resistant long enough for the fire department arrives .. I am starting my research but I would like the input of the forum..

I know that there are some safes which have wood interiors, very fancy at that, and I can imagine someone building a furniture enclosure for a steel safe, but an actual safe made entirely of wood? I wouldn't trust that to prevent burglary or fire damage.

I'd shoot back with a couch safe like they sell at bedgunsafe.com After all, you never know when you might need bullet proof couch cusions!

I have searched and have not found any examples of any safes made from wood.. I think she may be pulling my leg

both of the safes in burt reynold's 1989 'breaking in' movie were made of wood. dave mcomie was a 'safe' consultant for the movie. dave said the wood prop safes were built with great detail and looked like the real thing.

I think they used to have a unit of furniture they called a pie safe, made out of wood and screen wire.

Pie safes also come in a pierced tin style as well. They are made of wood, and will keep your pie safe from insects and rodents, but as they rarely have a lock, aren't much of a deterrent to children.

The last reference I heard of a wooden safe was in a British BBC 'Goon Show' 1957 program where a valuable 'piece of junk' was stored for safe keeping in a wooden safe.

Interesting... But I would almost be that 90% of the crooks would pass up the "wooden safe"...


They would be thinking it is a decoy or something not worth it to them inside...
