1907 Mosler safe Need help

Forgot how to dial the combination on that old safe? Think you got the right numbers but the handle is stuck? What safe should you buy? Ask your safe questions here!

Cant wait to read your write up on how it all came together. Did you brute force the last wheel or did the graphs keep showing more gates?!

Congratulations!

Thank you all so much for the information and help, I would have not been able to do this without you all. I will be using this as a replacement for my Victor safe and lock co safe once I restore it a bit and change the combination.

Oh man you must be super excited! How did it feel when you dialed the combo and the fence dropped in and the dial stopped dead? Did you throw the handle and pull the door open? Was loud yelling or joyful laughter involved?!

Very happy for you, strong work! Much respect, you're a natural!

What was the entire combo!?

Thanks for the great photos!

I just brute forced the last wheel once I had the other three. I was lucky to get it opened on one of the first few numbers that I tried for the 4th number. That makes my fist cracked safe combination. I might be addicted lol. the whole combo was 80,18,84,29, I was pretty excited when I felt and heard the fence fall in place and stop at around 15. I went in my house and informed everyone that it was open much to their disbelief.

I wonder if you take your wheel pack apart that you'll find the wheels set to 80,20,85,30. I can actually already see the one set to 30 in one of the photos, but you may have gotten good readings at the numbers that you used to dial it open. Like I said earlier this lock is forgiving if you are off by a number or two.

Your safe opening made my entire Monday so much better!

Thanks and again, great job!

So I took the wheel pack apart being sure to remember what place to put each wheel. The first three wheels were set to 30,85, and 20 but the last wheel was set to 78. Image Image

That's really good work! Congratulations! Pretty impressive.

One of the most difficult aspects of safe lock manipulation is wheel positioning, knowing how to position each wheel independently, and four wheel locks are quite a bit more difficult than three-wheel locks to begin with. That usually takes quite a bit of thought and practice and skill, but you picked it up really quickly. You must have phenomenal spatial reckoning.

I'm very impressed by you! Congratulations!!!
Not only on the opening, but also on how quickly and precisely you went from not knowing what a contact point was, to making graphs and progressively discovering the safe combination. First time I see this happening so quickly.

Nice safe, by the way.

Cheers :)

thank you all for your kind words. I could not have done it without the help and guidance of all of you especially you squelchtone. The thing that helped me with the wheel positioning was that every time I picked up a wheel I would verbalize what wheel/wheels it was. On a side not does anyone know where to find a lock for the inside door?

I appreciate the kudos, but I'm just a small cog in a big machine, and there are lots of people here who know a lot more about safes than I do. You deserve all the recognition on this one, we are all in awe of how fast you picked this up and got that safe open.

I don't think I've seen a lever lock for the inside door on ebay ever, but there is a Facebook safe lock collectors group and one of them might have one that they would be willing to sell.

Here is the link to their group https://www.facebook.com/groups/436191493400470

Have a good one,
