Old Safe?... I know nothing! Help!

Forgot how to dial the combination on that old safe? Think you got the right numbers but the handle is stuck? What safe should you buy? Ask your safe questions here!

Turn dial Left (like turning volume knob down) three times past 40 and stop on 40 the fourth time around
Turn dial Right two times past 55 and stop on 55 the third time around
Turn dial Left one time past 30 and stop on 30 the second time around.
Turn dial Right (like turning volume knob up) to 100 and see if the dial stops dead or if it lets you keep turning from 100 to 20 where it *should* stop turning and then you can try the handle.

I just tried this again and it doesnt even sound right when turning it. It click for the 40, and the 55 when following the other directions but never stops. The handle does wiggle a little? Is this normal?

Could you share a video of you dialing it so we can see the motions and try to hear the sounds you are hearing? If not comfortable posting it in public, you can email me a link to your tiktok or youtube channel squelchtone @ lockpicking101 . com

Thanks for posting the video, that helps a lot.

It looks like you started dialing Right (clockwise/volume up) instead of Left and dialed 40 then 55 and then 30.

Here are the exact steps turn by turn:

1. Turn dial Left (counter-clockwise) passing 40 and keep turning
2. Turn dial Left (counter-clockwise) passing 40 again and keep turning
3. Turn dial Left (counter-clockwise) passing 40 again and keep turning
4. Turn dial Left (counter-clockwise) and stop exactly on 40

5. Turn dial Right (clockwise) passing 55 and keep turning
6. Turn dial Right (clockwise) passing 55 again and keep turning
7. Turn dial Right (clockwise) and stop exactly on 55

8. Turn dial Left (counter-clockwise) passing 30 and keep turning
9. Turn dial Left (counter-clockwise) and stop exactly on 30

10. Turn dial Right (clockwise) and it should stop exactly on 100
11. Try the big handle

Tried this still did not work. It doesn't stop on 100 or even catch at all. Anything else to try?

Did you try these new instructions up above? I wrote them out step by step.

If the ones above don't work it's time to call a safe technician (find one on Savta.org) which will cost you $250 to $750 to crack or drill that safe open, or find a hobby safecracker in your area who may do it for free or for a pizza and some beers.

If there is a brick and mortar locksmith shop in your town and they do safe work, you could stop by and show them photos and ask for a quote. Perhaps the place where you work has a trusted locksmith on call who could take a quick look.

Do not call first random locksmith you find on google search, there are a lot of fly by night scammers who pretend to be locksmiths and then upcharge you only to ruin your locks.

Is the person who donated it to you around? Perhaps they could explain it over the phone or stop by and just open it for you? We can help you change the combination or figure out the dialing order once you have the lock taken apart.

Best of luck! We hope you get it open!

A random locksmith will probably destroy this safe. This would be a real shame as it is in excellent condition. If possibly try one who is willing to manipulate the lock. A hobby safecracker would be a good solution to your problem. If you are looking for a safe tech the link is http://www.savta.org/savta_tech.php .

I am not a safe cracker by any means but with combination available I can run the disk back and forth and see what I can learn for the rest of the people and see if I can get an open. Is the safe at a place of business? A public address I mean or a residence?
