What is the best portable safe

Forgot how to dial the combination on that old safe? Think you got the right numbers but the handle is stuck? What safe should you buy? Ask your safe questions here!

What is the best portable safe

I've been looking for a lock box or small portable safe to keep really valuable things in and am looking for the most secure thing possible and was wondering if anyone had any ideas.

Portable and secure don't really belong in the same sentence when applied to a safe. If you have a small safe you want it bolted down so someone cannot walk away with it.

Hi, this is a hobby lock picking site, not a consumer reports product review or recommendation site, so you're not really asking in the best place. You will find some good information on Amazon.com, Overstock.com, and ebay.com

If we could/would help you, we'd first need to know how small you actually mean? like a car glove box? like a small college fridge? and how valuable is your really valuable stuff, we talking ipad or weed or cash or jewelry or a handgun? Does it need to bolt down or have a cable to secure to a hotel room bed frame while traveling? are you gonna carry it around in trunk of your car or bolt it to the floor in your apartment closet?

I have a feeling you're looking for something like this Master Lock portable dorm room/travel safe which can store a passport, iphone, keys, cash, etc.

sorry, but we're gonna need even more info, and I don't want to play 20 questions all evening.. how big is this thing, does it need to protect from fire or just break in, is it going to be left alone for the day, a week, months at a time?

are you worried about kids getting in? professional burglars? family members? neighborhood teenagers looking for Oxy?

If you wanna step up to the $500 dollar range, Gardall makes the H2 portable safe, can be bolted in a closet, or car trunk, good luck breaking in, quality combination lock.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/GARDALL-SAFE-H- ... 416317fc47

So based on the $20 dollar Master Lock iphone safe for a college dorm room and the $500 dollar real safe, where is your budget and what's closer to what you're trying to buy?

does it have to have a key? can it be a combination?

This AMSEC under the counter convenience store drop box with high security Medeco key lock for $159 is the bomb. I have personally installed them and they are very heavy duty. hard to pick, and mountable the way in the photo of vertically standing up with the door on top.

check it out: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Amsec-Undercoun ... 1c325d310b

hope that gives you some good ideas,

That AMSEC K-1 mini safe with Medeco lock is probably the best thing I can recommend to you, here are the dimensions:

http://www.safeandvaultstore.com/productdetails/359

You can take it with you (weight is 16 pounds), or mount it inside truck behind seat, mount to trunk bed, car trunk, kitchen cabinet, inside a dresser, to the basement floor, etc, etc.

The price in the ebay link is pretty much best price around.

good luck,

Sorry, no such animal. Either its gonna be portable and easy to break into or its gonna be bulky and heavy and hard to break into but you wont be carrying it around.

I don't even want to recommend this next item because I don't like Sentry products, but it sounds like this is what you're looking for, just don't expect it to survive a massive attack, its sheet metal and plastic.

http://www.sentrysafe.com/Products/316/ ... curity_Box

If this stuff is all on your person while carrying it around, why does it have to also be in a safe? Put it all in a back pack and always have your back pack with you or lock it in your trunk or something. I don't know your whole story or if this is while at the beach or at work or what the location is, so that's the best we can do.

good luck, I gotta run

In Germany, you can buy a "Volkstresor" for about 15 EUR (20 USD)
Made in China. 3mm hardened steel. Very impressive Chubb lock for that kind of money.
I got one myself. Properly mounted, I'd trust it valuables up to ~1000 EUR.
Measures are 23x17x17cm, weight about 4kg.

The problems of portable safes were discussed already. No need to add anything to that.

Hey Bembel,

Poblem is that he is not in Germany...
I would go with Squelchs recommendation for that small safe with medeco cylinder. Looks like a decent small "safe" to me. Müller safe once had the HTM model which was a small but decent hotel safe model. You can still see it on their old webpage:

http://www.mueller-safe.de/alt/2-4.htm

I have the HTM4 in my collection. It is the smalles safe with a double layered wall that I have seen so far. Good quality too the lock should be a Mauer with 7 lever If I am not mistaken.

The best portable safe is the one no one knows is there; think about it.

Doesn't matter, these cheap safes are sold worldwide under different brand names:

But I agree that my post was misleading.
