Help with this rosengren safe

Postby scudo » 28 Nov 2014 16:11

I have a rosengren `safe` probably made around the 1980s, I am trying to find out if it has any fire rating or security rating for insurance purposes. I have emailed Rosengrens who said they would find out but 2 months later still no reply.

when you tap on the outside of the door, if there is a hollow sound, youre probably gonna have a burglar resistant safe there, not a fire resistant one.

There doesnt look like glass behind the lock does it?

I suggest that it is simply a non-fire resistant burglary resistant product.

Hi,

I'd figure the insurance company would already have a catalog of known safes and what their rating is, have you asked your insurance agent/representative?

I agree with global, that's not fire proof. Which country are you in , there are different standards that are recognized in the UK, Netherlands, Germany, USA, etc.

Thanks,

Yeah it sounds hollow. It doesnt have glass behind the lock, should it have? There is a relocker on it though, its a spring loaded wire.
From the uk it came from a post office and was used for storing cash. Problem with the Ins company is I dont have a model number, there are some nos but they I think relate to Sweden.

On another note is there a cheap way to beef up the fireproofing maybe line it with wood or plasterboard?

"SS 3492" is a Swedish standard for burglary resistance.
Maybe with Google translator you can find the specs.

one does not simply make a fire safe out of a burglar safe.

PM me the serial number please, I have a friend in the Netherlands who asked me to get it and he can do some checking for a model number for you. A photo of the serial number tag is preferred. upload it to http://imgur.com/ or photobucket and send to me in Private Message.

Thanks

I checked with an expert and he said your safe has no fire rating and only has the Swedish Burglary Protection Board rating SS 3492 as was already mentioned in this thread.

SS 3492 google search wrote: box of sheet steel (thickness 4 mm) and complying with the Swedish Standard SS 3492-2005 [1] .

The cabinets lacks fire, but gives relatively good flame resistance.

maybe contact a different email address or person at Rosengrens to find a model number. best of luck,

Actually that isn't a bad idea. The biggest problem with a fire safe is they are some of the easiest safes to open around. Placing one inside this safe
should help a great deal with that problem. A lot of companies are now integrating the two safe types into one new style called a Burglary/Fire safe.
Interesting about the wallboard, I have seen several gun safes that share a 20 minute fire rating that will have a piece of wallboard behind the front
door panel. I don't know how or if the bodies of these 20 minute safes are lined, or if they are at all. 20 minutes isn't a lot of time for a fire to burn out
