What is an alignment tool

Forgot how to dial the combination on that old safe? Think you got the right numbers but the handle is stuck? What safe should you buy? Ask your safe questions here!

If you are referring to safe lock installation, it helps to align the safe lock, dial, spindle, and dial ring. A misaligned safe lock will likely cause binding and possibly a failed lock.

Actually many trades use "alignment tools", they are not restricted to the safe & vault trade
Seems to me auto mechanics use them for lining up transmissions

After installing a bunch of safe locks over the years I can't figure out why anyone would even buy a safe alignment tool, such
as the D.R.A.T. that Lockmasters sold, unless they were re-drilling the lock mounting screws. Chances are you only have about 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch to move the dial ring anyhow &
the safe lock case retaining screws are designed to make sure the lock cannot move, unless it is being bashed off
