Opening an old safe box

Postby gilneto » 21 Mar 2015 7:55

Hello everyone.

First of all, sorry for any mistake I might make. English is not my native language, so it's only natural somewhere along the text sh** hitting the fan.

Now, straight to business: I have an old safe box, back from the 20's, full of old coins. It belong to my dad, and his dad before, and his dad before. Now, it all seems wonderful and joyful, but I can't seem to find its key. Neither does my dad, neither does his mom. So, we all agreed we had to find a way to crack it open.

The lock itself seems pretty simple. I'm no expert in locks or lock picking, but i seem to need some sort of hollow key with 2 divisions that turn the lock. I've got some images of the lock, that might help you understand what i'm saying.

I'm posting the links and not the images itself because they're a bit too large to be in a post.

If there was any way to crack this open without destroying the lock of the safe box itself, that would be amazing. Plus, I'll post the content if anyone's interested :P

I have the safe box with me, so if you need any more information, fire away. I'll do what I can to help.

[Moved from Got Beginner Questions? to This Old Safe]

since this is the internet and anyone can make up any story or pretend to be anyone they want, we cant prove whose box this is and since all of your photos are close ups of the keyway and no photo of the entire box, who is to say what the entire situation is.

We do not help people get into safes or lock boxes, parking meters, coca cola vending machines, etc, etc.

The best advice I can give you is to take the lock box to your nearest local locksmith shop and they can open it for you for a small fee. If you have never picked before, this is not a good lock to learn the basic methods.

If you really need to get into the box, find a locksmith or find a hammer.

Locking this thread as we do not get into details especially when safes or lockboxes with money are the topic, and close up photos of keyholes are the only thing presented to us.

Hope you understand and sorry we could not help. You may send me a private message if you wish to discuss.

Try contacting fgarci03, he is from Portugal, maybe he can offer advice if he is not busy.
