Old safe; have key but no combo

Forgot how to dial the combination on that old safe? Think you got the right numbers but the handle is stuck? What safe should you buy? Ask your safe questions here!

Old safe; have key but no combo

I've got a safe maybe from 2011. Have the keys and there's a sticker at the bottom corner (CK 271 15625). First 3 numbers match the number of the key, so the last 5 numbers I assume is the combination?

There's no branding or model number I can find at all which is making it painful to find information about the safe.

I've tried using 3 digit combinations (15 6 25, 1 56 25, 15 62 5) without much luck, though could well be I'm not doing it right. It seems the twists are relatively standard but can vary. Perhaps it's a 4 combination lock though that would mean most digits are < 10 which seems like it wouldn't be right (the largest number is 90 FYI).

Any ideas on how I can get it open, or what brand it is? Is this sticker even the combination or am I banging my head against a wall there?

Doubt that is the combination.

Question - if you have the key turned while turning the dial, does it change how the dial feels as you turn it?

Looks like an import similar to the Diplomat series. What a wonderful opportunity for you to hone your direct drive
manipulation skills! The key should drive the fence into the wheels, which will make it easier to manipulate.

If you brought it to my shop I would probably try to determine the manufacturer, as the 5 digit serial number
could yield the combo the safe was set on when constructed

The color will likely link it to the manufacturer, if no sticker is on the safe

Your combination is likely to have 4 sets of numbers, like 4 turns left, 3 turns right, 2 turns left and turn right to the last number,
then turn the key right to retract the boltwork

It may be a private labeled import that may have had a Diplomat, McGunn,or even an Amsec label on it at one time.Turn dial while turning key. Does dial bind? I suspect this is a 3 wheel direct drive lock (X lock). Try the last 3 numbers in the sequence.Probably not the combo but try them anyway. Sequence would be 3L-2R-1L, turn key OR 3R-2L-1R, turn key.

That's just a standard, run of the mill, inexpensive import safe that was sold under many different names.

The sticker is the serial number and not the combo.

This is a direct entry lock with a 3 digit combo.

You dial the combo, stop on the last number and turn the key to retract the bolt.

You have the key, and believe it or not, that's actually the hard part of these safes. The combo is rather simple and shouldn't take long for a locksmith that does safe work to manipulate it open for you and find the combo. Just call around and compare prices.

If someone tells you that the only way to open that is to drill a hole in it, take it somewhere else.
