S&G RG700 lock

Forgot how to dial the combination on that old safe? Think you got the right numbers but the handle is stuck? What safe should you buy? Ask your safe questions here!

S&G RG700 lock

Postby ironring58 » 8 Dec 2016 10:08

Hi,

I have an old Diebold Data safe with a S&G RG700 combination lock. I need to change the combination from a single number to 3 digits. Can I get instructions from someone. BTW I have the change key and the Dial does not have a Change Index marked on it.

Thanks

Hello,

Pictures will help us get you the most accurate advice, could you post 1 of the dial and 1 of the back cover of the safe lock please? Is there a change key hole on the back cover?

If there is, I think we've seen this kind of S&G before where the Opening Index and the Change index are both at 12 oclock on the dial.

If your lock has a change key hole on the back cover the instructions are like this:

Dial the combination and stop on the last number, but don't turn the dial that last turn needed to retract the bolt. (If your combo is just 50-50-50 turn the dial Left passing 50 3 times and stop on it the 4th time.)

Insert change key, turn it,

Dial your new combination:
Turn Left passing the 1st number 3 times and stop on it the 4th time _____
Turn Right passing the 2nd number 2 times and stop on it the 3rd time ____
Turn Left passing the 3rd number 1 time and stop on it the 2nd time ______

Turn change key back and remove it.

Test out your work:
Dial the combination several times and see if the lock unlocks smoothly. After entering the combination as above, turn the dial RIght until you feel the bolt being retracted and the dial will stop turning.

Let me see if I can dig up a similar thread, it may have all of this covered already.. here is someone with similar lock: viewtopic.php?f=36&t=62980&p=466392

Great, thank you for posting the pics!

Ok based on the location of the change key hole that confirms it. dial your current 1 number combination to the opening index because it's also your change index, insert key, turn it until it pops into position and then follow the steps I wrote up above.

good luck and let us know how you make out
