I have an old safe that has been in the family for many years. I haven't opened it in over 10 years and we have managed to lose the combination and I thought it could be a summer project to spend a few week trying to get this thing opened. If I fail I'll pay for a professional to do help, but I wanted to give it a go myself first. Its a victor safe and lock co from cincinnati, ohio. Its dated on the lock Oct 2 88. Has a serial number of 127319. Ive been reading through old victor safe posts on this forum and wanted to post to see if anyone has any pointers. Ive been using the L4-R3-L2-R1

Thanks for any help in advance

Nice safe. The lock is either a Yale L-1 or something very similar without case. I like this construction.

This forum does not allow to discuss safe entry (manipulation or destructive) in the open part.

Lots of good info on learning safe manipulation on the internet if you have the time and want to learn. Its an older lock so its more forgiving.

Best of luck and post back when you get it open either way.

I am working on relaxing some rules regarding things like teaching safe lock manipulation.

I've been reading previous helpful threads on this forum such as :
viewtopic.php?f=36&t=64581&start=15
and this one-
viewtopic.php?f=36&t=65153
i've also been watching some youtube tutorials on safe manipulation. But the dial is fairly old and wiggles. so it is hard to get a good feel for the contact zone.

Squelch in the previous 2 threads I'm referencing you posted some factory combos from a book which i have tried every other one of those going L4-R3-L2-R1 and opposite R4-L3-R2-L1.
And you also recommended trying every possible combo in increments of 10- ("I would try your hand at dialing every possible combination starting at 0 - 0 - 0 then do 10 - 0 - 0 then 20 - 0 - 0 all the way to 90 - 0 - 0 then start with 0 - 10 - 0, 10 - 10 - 0 ... 90 - 10 - 0, all the way to 90 - 90 - 0 then do 0 - 0 - 10 , then 10 - 0 - 10 , 10 - 0 - 20 ") I'm starting to do this but only L4-R3-L2-R1.

Any direction ya'll can provide would be greatly appreciated.

I have here another list of combinations for you to try. I am not sure how reliable this information is. With your lock the 1R information should not be needed as it should just stop, when it is open. I have listed here only every second combination as the gates in these locks look very wide. Of course manipulation is more fun.

I have gone through all combinations that are posted here in this thread. Been trying to go manipulation route and I believe this is a gravity loaded fence design. I believe I have found 2 of the 3 numbers through sound and feel while dialing but I don't know what wheel they correspond to.

What is a good way to go about figuring out which number is on a certain wheel/ which wheel is indicating for gravity loaded fence? also what if there are duplicate numbers in the sequence, how would you rule that out?

Thanks for everybody's help.

Any manipulation tips will need to be sent to the OP via private message. Until rules change, manipulation is advanced topic.
