Dialing instructions for a Cannonball safe

Postby damonwill » 16 Dec 2021 10:31

Can anyone confirm the dialing procedure for the safe below?

I have what I believe is the combo and dialing 4L, 3R, 2L, R to stop but it doesn't seem to be correct.. Or is there a video of someone dialing a combo on one of these I could watch? I'm definitely a visual person....

Thanks!!!

Or could it be 4L, 3R, 2L, 1R, Left to stop? I saw a video online that was that way....

The National Safe and Lock Co. money chest uses an indirect 065-1/2 Yale lock which is piggybacked to the Yale time lock. This setup has the combination lock on the inside of the door which is unusual for cannonball/chest style bank safes.

The dialing would be L-R-L-Right to stop. Here is a video of the lock in action, including the locking action of the time lock, and the movement of the door bolts by the lock. Because the dial moves everything all the way to the door bolts, the action is heavy and the lock gets excessive wear. Door alignment and setup is critical for this locking action to work well. A poor design.
