Is this a Victor safe?

Forgot how to dial the combination on that old safe? Think you got the right numbers but the handle is stuck? What safe should you buy? Ask your safe questions here!

Is this a Victor safe?

Postby lakemartin » 23 Jan 2022 19:55

This safe was in an old cotton gin that my father-in-law purchased back in the early 60s. It has been painted a couple of time and I cannot find any identifying marks on it. I am thinking it was made by Victor, based on some other pictures on the site. Can anyone tell me if I am correct, is this an old Victor safe? And what about the lock type can anyone tell me about the lock type. I am guessing a Yale L1 or L2. Anyone have an idea how old the safe may be?

The handle dial is typical for Victor and the rest of the safe is also looking like a Victor. All Victors have the same kind of lock, but some times it is with and sometimes without case, or there is a separate handle, and some locks allow more codes than others.

So far unable to get it to open so no idea what the inside looks like yet. Not sure if I have the correct combination or not. I found a few combinations in father-in-law’s old papers, but not sure if any of them are correct or not. Is the dialing sequence L-R-L or R-L-R? I have been told older safes like this one are easier to manipulate than newer ones, is that generally true? Anybody got a guess on the age?

L-R-L the Right to stop. You should be able to feel to gate contacting the drive cam. I have been able to manipulate the two that I had.. No idea on age..
