Forgot how to dial the combination on that old safe? Think you got the right numbers but the handle is stuck? What safe should you buy? Ask your safe questions here!

Help confirming 3 or 4 wheel for a Chubb-Mosler Safe

Postby jaggles » 31 Dec 2022 9:54

Hi,

We recently purchased a home that had this safe hidden behind furniture in the wall. It measures about 3' tall, 2' wide and 2' deep. We asked the previous owners, and they said they don't know the combination as it was left there by owners prior to them. You can see from the photos that someone has drilled into the back, likely just to confirm if there was anything inside.

I'm in the process of educating myself on safe manipulation, and have been graphing, etc. I believe I may have identified 1 number so far, likely the 3rd wheel. But this is where I'm stuck. When I use AWR to find the next number, the graph points seem to change each time I redo it.

I'm hoping someone here might be able to help me confirm whether this safe is a 3 wheel or 4 wheel, based on the model/serial, etc?

The brand is: Chubb-Mosler & Taylor Safes Ltd. (I'm located in Canada)
The model #: T-3016-CL
Serial: 122022-71

I looked at the post on this site which identifies Mosler serial numbers, but my number isn't in the list. I'm taking a wild guess just based on appearance that this safe is from the 1960s or 1970s.

Any help that anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated!

Hi, This should be a fire safe made by Mosler with the standard 3-wheel Sargent & Greenleaf R6730. I think your dating is correct. You will find a date inside the lock.
