S&G 6100

Postby keiser13 » 17 Sep 2023 23:16

I have acquired an already opened and unlocked AmSec rifle safe with an S&G 6100 electronic lock.
I don't know the code and opened the case of the S&G unit hoping for a reset button.
I see a "P2" interface on the board [3 plated contact strips] and wonder if that can be used to reset the master code to 123456#
[I shorted them with the batteries removed, but that did not reset.]
Or is there some other was to restore the master code?
[This may have been an after-market replacement to the AmSec rifle case as the AmSec models seem to have a "C" where the S&G has an "*"]
Any suggestions appreciated.

I do not know even a semi-public method to reset an S&G lock. There are so called black boxes that possibly can reset an S&G lock. They cost a few thousand dollars. You will have to find a safe tech that has one and see if his conditions are good for you.

La Gard and NL Lock locks do have semi-public to public methods to reset them, either by a paper clip or a box with a simple circuit. In all these cases the lock needs power, because without power the electronics can do a thing.

"The lock’s MRC (management reset code) may have been pre-set
at the factory. If so, it will be printed on a white label attached
to the lock body if your lock is a model 6120 or 6123"

The management reset code can be used to reset the lock's master code to 123456#

Model is "6100"series from mid 1990's.
No luck on the MRC.

S&G does that. They'll put 6700 series on their mechanical safe lock cover but the actual model is 6730 or 6740.

So yours is more than likely a 6120 or 6123. If you share some photos we can confirm, and then you can perhaps get better google results if you google for the exact model you have instead of just 6100.

You may find this manual handy if you have not already seen it: http://ftp.sargentandgreenleaf.com/pdf/630-302_6120_op.pdf

You can get a replacement on ebay as well if this lock is a paperweight now

I have seen that pdf.
The lock is on an opened AmSec rifle cabinet acquired at auction for a song.
It makes an OK conversation piece as is but might be sold for maybe a hundred dollars if the lock worked.
The ebay replacements (1) take too much profit out of the deal and (2) would not satisfy my curiosity.
The keypad blinks and chirps once when numbers [123456] are input.
Sometimes it chirps 3 times at the third number, but not always, regardless of the hours between attempts.
Multiple attempts can be made with no apparent time out freeze - or at least none I detect.
I removed the batteries and shorted out the internal "P2" hoping that might reset the IC but no change.
I will test the solenoid to make sure it works and properly soldered.

Thank you for the feedback.
