Old Mosler Safe - Lost Combination

Postby Tybuck1 » 7 Nov 2023 4:45

I have an old Mosler Safe that has been in my family for years. Unfortunately, have lost the combination. Not sure if it is worth the effort to have the lock picked(if possible) or drilled. If the safe can be opened without ruining it, wouldn't mind using it. Also curious to know if there are services where I could have it restored/cleaned/repaired? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. I live in Central Illinois.

Thank you!

Wow, that one is in a really nice condition. I think it is worth to be preserved. The term used on these locks instead of picking is "manipulation". That opens the safe without any scratch.

Your options are:

- Get a safe tech to do the opening for you. You will find a list at http://www.savta.org/savta_tech.php . Some of these do manipulation, but most of them will drill it. If done well it will be difficult to see or even be invisible that it was drilled.
- Learn yourself the art of manipulation to open it. This one will probably be difficult and this makes only sense if you have patience and see the process as something you have fun with.
- Maybe someone else living nearby wants to have the fun opening it. Perhaps you can find here someone.

I would prefer it to have the safe manipulated, especially because it is such a nice safe, but the availability of people who can do this and the price might prevent that.
