Need Help opening Meilink Home Safe

Postby Btuchman » 4 Feb 2024 9:25

I purchased an unopened safe from a friend. They did not have the combo and I thought I would try to open it. Can anyone point me in the right direction to learn how to open it?
Thank You
Bruce

I’d probably start by searching for the national locksmith’s guide to safe manipulation, then when everything makes some sense give it a start then ask questions here

Thanks for the link to those great invidious videos. I started watching them and I am thinking there is a problem with the dial. I can go slowly in either direction and never feel a gate or drag anywhere. Does that mean that maybe the safe was laying on its side for a period of time and some of the dials or fence got stuck or frozen?
please advise.
thanks
Bruce

I doubt it. If you can feel the amount of wheels in the wheel pack, then the combination lock should be serviceable. After you know how many wheels there are, then figuring out which direction to turn for each combination number will require some graphing.

I was attempting to graph it but there are no snags or points of resistance.
I may even have the correct 3 digit number from the the company which does not work.
I tried it several ways and not opening and no resistance at any point.
That is why I am looking to manipulate it open.
I have several other safes and I know the various resistance points I have while opening.
This one seems not to resist.
Thanks

I can't graph it because I can't feel any resistance anywhere.

Any pointers from anyone?

Thanks

Try the combination you using the dialing sequence provided in this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tf9P4ebHvBo

Turn Left 3 times past the 1st number, then stop on 1st number 4th time around.
Turn Right 2 times past the 2nd number, then stop on 2nd number 3rd time around.
Turn Left 1 time past the 3rd number, then stop on the 3rd number the 2nd time around.
Turn Right to 90 where the dial should stop dead.
Try the handle

It worked. I had to put tension on the dial with the handle. Back and forth and it opened. Thanks so much.

Excellent, glad we could help.

Could you do us a favor and upload a couple photos with the inside door panel removed so we can add a photo of the locking mechanism and bolt work to our files?

Thank you very much,

Btuchman was kind enough to email this photo of the inside of his Meilink Hercules safe.

That Sargent Greenleaf lock was made in Rochester NY, so that safe is from 1974 or earlier before S&G moved to Nicholasville, Kentucky.

Thank you!
