Changing Combo Vintage Sentry Dial Safe

Forgot how to dial the combination on that old safe? Think you got the right numbers but the handle is stuck? What safe should you buy? Ask your safe questions here!

Changing Combo Vintage Sentry Dial Safe

Sentry safe lid, have current combo, but want to change it to a specific combo. The flys for the bottom and 2nd wheel are fixed (stamped into the wheels), and the top wheel fly (screw) looks adjustable only in gross adjustments, not specific numbers. I.e. 12 available spaces for a 100 number dial.

So, an adjustment to a specific combination isn't possible? Or, not reasonably possible?

Howdy, Welcome to LP101,

Setting that safe to a specific set of numbers will be VERY difficult. The large screw on the side of the black drive wheel can be moved to one of the other holes. That changes the basic combination. You will need to dial the lock, watch where each wheel stops at the fence, and look at the dial to see what number it is. You can take off the drive wheel and flip either or both of the combo wheels under it, to add more possible combos. But, sometimes these combos are not usable because the gates line up at nearly the same number for the combo. Note that the punched out places that turn the combo wheels are not adjustable for varied combos. They can be flattened out and a new hole drilled and tapped for a screw, but this isn't worth the time and effort.

Final answer: it would be a waste of time trying to get a specific combo number.

Get a better safe with a more quality lock to be able to make a better choice combo.
