plot twist: OP is the ghost of the previous property owner trapped in one of the locations around the farm, and the thief is actually the new and very much alive property owner just doing his thing working on projects as the years go by.

M. Night Shamalon already made that movie.

I just left Supercircuits site. They have nice quality stuff.

I have four large breed dogs. They bark but dont get aggressive.

He drank the only two Bud Light and left the Turbo Dog.

This place can be noisy. I even have a blow arc. Most of the neighbors are at work during the day.

Well there you have it, a thief with no taste. I say catch him and make him drink good beer until he repents.

I have a supercircuits Alibi branded dvr and 4 cameras, cost me $219 with 4 65-foot plug and play cables and power transformers, real easy to slap together and start recording. The dome cameras are 1.2 megapixel which is like 720p and the IR LEDs light up a large area.

I'll have to break into your gates and suffer the consequences with you, Cledry. Better yet, we can skip breaking into your gates and just meet at a bar and proceed to getting in to my penance until we both repent.

The sheriff kept repeating (and repeating) "with such low quality photo, I cant tell who that is". I want to get something better. I d love to be able to just hand the guy a flash drive or a printout. He kept wanting to look at completely unrelated stuff. We already have " no glow" leds on the game cameras. Those are a must have. I just started learning this stuff. That particular cam is 8mp but it was slow to trigger . He's blurry and on the photo edge facing the wrong way.

We're juggling the camera locations and building hides instead of just strapping to a tree.

Changing locks as mentioned would be good as mentioned. Over Time, people will make duplicates, ex employee may have one?, a lock left where someone could pick up, could be taken home and apart. Electronic Security can Help. Cameras work well. Many DVR's can be Motion Activated, and have the ability to Mask out areas to ignore(A tree blowing in the wind can be masked, but motion everywhere else will start recording, tree will be in recording), contact activated. schedule(after working hours, Weekends, whenever).
Following cables to DVR will give Burgular the DVR(Evidence), wireless, or dual video to 2 recorders, second hidden could just have a Cat 5(with 4 Baluns, it will handle 4 Cameras, and not look like camera wires. Cloud Recording is an option. Dedicated Computer is another.
Security Systems work well, I prefer hardwire. They make wireless contacts, Motions, Smokes, Water, most anything.
Optexamerica has a 9 Volt powered Motion Detector with a portable receiver, 2000 foot range, they have dry contacts to connect to an alarm system, bell, light, whatever, handles 3 IR Motion transmitters, chimes different for each. Great for camping. Place on Trails for early notification.
If you have a landline, you could get an USP or other Dialer. Cellular Backup or dialup.
You could connect it to a Viking RC4 and when alarm goes off, it will notify you(Text, Email)as it has 4 inputs, 1 would be the alarm, 2 could be a certain door, other 2 could be anything that can produce a NO or NC Contact. Medical alert? The RC 4 also give you the ability to Open or close 4 outputs from your phone/computer for free. I don't endorse anyone and not connected, I mentioned the Above, because they Work Well.
DSC 1832 is a Very Capable Alarm system, As is Digital Watchdog for DVR and Cameras. I have used many Manufacturers, need to check what SC has, I get their Catalogs.

Wow. Alarms have come a long way. Some of that stuff is out of a movie. Mission Impossible, maybe?

Great! I now have three big subjects / projects I know nothing about.

Not a Movie, Was Inspired By James Bond, Batman, Mission Impossible any thing Spy or Cool Stuff since the 70's
I have a System in For a Customer so that when any perimeter doors are open more than 5 Minutes, it shuts off the AC, when closed it kicks back in, if Smoke or Heat is detected, it shuts off AC, so smoke is not pumped throughout the house or more more Oxygen to the fire. Also have about 7 Hardwired, and 8 wireless water sensors(Toilets, sinks, water heater, washer, ice maker....., and if any detect a drop of water, it shuts off a 1" Ball Valve within 2 seconds. Pool Heater/Equipment(60 Amp Contactor) can be turned on and off remotely as well as a 30 Amp Contactor for Water Heater, Raise and lower shutters on front Door.
All is done with NO monthly Monitoring. Can help with any project in you have in mind. You can make it up if you like.
Like solving problem/puzzles, Like most Locksmiths here.
One of the first things I thought of when finding Bluetooth Relays, is to install in Your Daughters/Sons/Wifes Car to allow them to open door with an app on their phone. Locked out of your car in the middle of the night in the middle of nowhere can be Dangerous. Run any Ideas by me if you like. Take Care

I say this in jest so don't really do it.

May be hide a larger bear style trap. I bet it would only go off once. Of course you would likely face criminal prosecution.

You almost certainly would. I am not a lawyer, but my understanding is that even if your state does have a stand your ground or similar law that justifies deadly force in defending against intruders, they generally only apply to your primary domicile or other facility that is occupied by you or your family at the time. As it seems that the thefts in question here are happening in workshops or other outbuildings, deadly force would likely not be justified unless Lelandwelds happened to be in that facility at that time and was in fear for his life.

On a related note, I once heard a similar story (I have no idea if it's true or not) from a friend about a guy who lived in the country and like Lelandwelds was having problems with after hours thefts in his barn. His solution was to set up a 12 gauge on a tripwire across the barn entrance. Thief comes back, gets blasted in the legs, and successfully sues the owner for medical expenses plus pain and suffering. When asked after the verdict if he'd do anything different if he could go back in time, owner's reply was, "Yeah, I'd aim the 12 gauge a couple of feet higher."

Take whatever lesson you will from that. ;-)
