Does eurolock have the same plug as mortise?

Thinking of upgrading your door security? Getting a better deadbolt or padlock? Getting a new frame or better hinges? Not sure what brand or model to go with for your particular application? Need a recommendation? Feel free to ask for advice here!

Does eurolock have the same plug as mortise?

Postby LockPickViking » 21 Feb 2021 19:30

Hello. Ive got an mortise(trioving) lock. I want to replace the key to a more fancy one, like a dimple. I do have yale eurolocks and mul-t eurlocks lying around. Both dimpled. Can i exchange the plug on my mortise to the either the yale or mul-t? Or in any way use them at all, saving me buying new parts.
Thanks for answers.

Hello,

Do you mean you want to replace the "mortise cylinder" or "euro profile cylinder" to the mortise lock case mounted inside your door to a different cylinder?

Could you show some photos please so we can be talking about the correct parts and offer you the correct advice? Please upload photos to imgur.com and share the links here in your reply.

Thank you,
Squelchtone

Also remember that the spacing between the pins is not always standardized. The plug may slide into the mortise housing (not fit properly, nor will it be secured properly), but that does not mean that the key pins will line up with the driver pins. And the MTL has different diameter pins with their pin-in-pin cylinders. Way too many things that can (and will) go wrong. Now what you can do is get a mortise cylinder HOUSING to hold a kik cylinder or LFIC cylinder of higher quality.

I'll elaborate a bit on what Gordon kind of hinted at in his reply but didn't explicitly state. Even if everything does fit and line up exactly properly, there's still the issue of holding the plug in. On most KiK/Euro cylinders, the plug will be retained by either a circlip or threaded cap. On a mortise cylinder, the plug will most likely be retained by two small screws which also attach the cam to the back of the cylinder. The two types are not interchangeable.
