Why don't you leave the car key on top of the right front wheel like everybody else?

Just kidding ;-)

Here's a lock box marketed towards surfers and looks like specifically has pictures showing fobs fitting inside.

https://surflogic.com/key-locks/

Could someone sit there and dial the combo for an hour until they got it? would a decoder tool work to slip inside? That's something you'd have to test out yourself or just trust the system and go surfin. Mount it backwards on the door handle so the combination wheels face the car door, or put it on the roof rack so its awkward to sit there dialing combinations of messing with it.

anyways, good luck and glad you found that other one you linked to, hope it all works out for ya!

Don't all those style combination locks have the same exploit and can be opened in minutes with a shim?

not all. some are tighter to get in than others. you could home brew a padlock hasp over the combination dial that swings open to reveal the combination dial after you remove the padlock and then get an Abus 55/45 brass padlock which would be mich harder to pick than lets say a Master Lock No.3

Sounds like you found a potential solution. Who would think cars would outgrow physical keys.

I have been pondering a similiar problem. What about a "product of the mind" solution? (Combination lock that can be toggled on or off.) Something like a keypad from the Ford 19 80s era window sill keypad? Maybe, a unpowered Bluetooth device with a tough password that is potted in a two part silicone, etc.? An Arduino that listens for "shave and a haircut" knocked on the right quarter panel before popping the locks?

Activate the alternate opener only when surfing. I have no skills that would let me build such a thing.

Well really the car companies should be working on facial recognition. Then no need to carry around a radio transmitter. Car thieves now use a relay to make the car think the fob is nearby to unlock the cars and drive away with the fob inside their house.

NOOOOOO! Really bad idea there. Facial recognition is a love hate with being able to defeat it with a picture. Some companies have done decent security updates and different cameras to recognize more features. Still,I feel thats a risk I'm not willing to take.

What about linking your phone to the vehicle? Or do you have a remote access service like ONSTAR or similar? You could lock it up tight then call them to unlock it for you.

Well it would have be 3D facial recognition. I don't surf with my phone. Maybe I should get a Tesla and then all I have to carry is the card.

Some the Tesla owners and other similar type vehicles have implanted the chip sub-dermal. RFID implants. People been doing that for years. I believe there are retrofit kits available out there now as well.

Here is a basic kit along the lines of what I'm suggesting.

Add an RFID sub Dermal Glasstube implant -

Watch this video. @00:39 he opens a retro fitted vehicle with the same kit.

Definitely not my cup of tea.

Gordon. I agree. I'm not a needle guy myself. However, If his main goals tube secure in every vehicle he has with his keys secure. No water damage, no compromise and virtually no additional vehicle modification. This is the way to go. Most of the time its a piggyback plug you put into the OBD2 port for all the power and rx x tx stuff.

This is the website where most of the stuff is sold with a forum supporting the products. IF a person had a key card/fob/ etc for work or their residence, you could clone that - then program the chip with the same info. Then link that chip to the vehicle and now you just took care of 2 accessories in one small package.

IF I was going to get one of these, it would be the Dual frequency chip. That way I'm covered for multiple technologies.

Again,I agree. It is not for everyone. Might suit this persons needs and wants though.
