We spoke in chat and I just wanted to add that the OP is from the island of Malta which may limit his choices in locks, please keep that in mind.
Thanks,

Hello errolt,

I've seen many nice locks in my recent trip to Malta. I saw mainly English and Italian brands.
Both Mottura and Potent are very good choices. I think that the final decision depends on the lock model you choose.
What locks are we talking about exactly?

Cheers :)

sorry i didnt get notified about the reply here let me send you the details
this is from potent but the one im seeing at mottura is of the same shape too but i want the one that doesnt come with the top and bottom bars http://www.potent.it/cpz/servlet/pocs_b ... ndexMenu=5
tell me which is best from these two and what other brands you saw here in malta cause i cant find any more.Also everyone im talking to here in malta is saying that mottura is the best i dont know why or if maybe mottura was here before potent so people like always stuck to mottura plus mottura is expensive while potent is like almost half price of the mottura

Potent locks are of equal quality.
Look to the product itself.
if the lock is of better materials. Then it will hold up more.
hope this helps.
The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.

You chose a very good lock from Potent. I know Mottura is a bigger and more known company, maybe this is why many people prefer their products. If this one costs half the price of a Mottura, go for it. Mottura may be better, but not "double better", if you know what I mean.
I also saw many CISA, ITALSERRATURE, Cerutti, ISEO while I was there. And many Ingersoll padlocks with proper sized hasps, but it's not an option for a house door. Here is the thread if you're interested.

Have you considered getting a different one? I mean, a lock that accepts an euro profile cylinder. Obviously you'll need a cover to protect it from snapping or drilling it, but that's how Italian doors are made nowadays. I warn you: it'll cost more...

Good luck and let us know what you chose :)

It's difficult to answer your question if you haven't chosen a specific Mottura lock to compare to the other one.

What are you concerned about? Forced entry? Are you going to mount the lock on a wooden door? are the hinges properly sized and mounted? Are the door strike and jamb solid and firmly connected to the walls?

The lock is just a single part of a much more complex system that makes your door and house secure.

Cheers :)

You may not agree with this, but in my opinion..

Potent = Toyota
Mottura = BMW

both good locks but Mottura a little better in quality, materials, design, style.
