Cutting Shim Stock

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Cutting Shim Stock

Postby Kodiak » 10 Oct 2005 1:29

Any suggestions for quickly and easily cutting shim stock? I've been cutting the blanks about halfway through with a cutoff wheel and then finishing the cut with a cold chisel. I tried using just the cold chisel but it mangles the metal badly. I'm using .025" steel.

I get the best results cutting shim stock using an air nibbler. ;)

And to answer ThE_MasteR's question...... shim stock is like sheet metal but is in a narrow coil and is used to to level thing (like sliding a matchbook under the wobblly table leg)

Cheers!
When all else fails..... use the Fire Wrench!!

i would use .020 shims. abit thinner. i also use a metal chopsaw like a grinder and hold the pick against it. grind a marked profile and use a tough glove
