When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.
Interesting info... i wish they would standardize steel nomenclature or at least have a table showing the equivalent steels.

Just a bit of personal info on the steel in knives. I am a butcher and use them daily. A high carbon blade is superior in that it can be made sharper and holds the edge longer. Unfortunately some years ago (at least in my location) we were no longer allowed to use anything but stainless because of the rust factor.
Whether this applies to picks in any way I cant say.
