tesion weights

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

why?

you should be using your fingers to apply the tension on the tool.

good, then today you learnt it is a terrible idea :)

it really is only good for one handed people.... I would say that like 70% of picking is tension, both with feedback and application.

If you are using a set tension, then you lose all feedback and only have a single strength of application, so you are basically picking at only like 30%.

not to mention just the time in setting it up is a waste too when you can just slip in a tension with your hand.

Unless you can come up with a good thing for the other hand to be doing, I still say this is a terrible idea....

like i said the only way to learn is trial and error and it looks like that was a bad idea my apologies.

Hi

just noticed that HPC sell a HANDS free tension wrench so my idea cant of been that bad. I've since noticed that a lot of other people had the same idea.

i wonder if HPC sell many or if any member has bought one? i know that everyone says that its better to use tension wrench for feel etc. but don't locksmiths ever get called out to a job and when opening a lock would like to have free hand to hold a door handle or anything etc.

I've a circular tension wrench.... a complete waste of time!

Personally i get nowhere with a lock without feedback. You need to feel what is happening, those little movements of the cylinder are so important. I think my little girl has mine in here toys somewhere now. In my view a complete waste of money.

But that's just my opinion

Cheers

Hi stevew

a lot of people have said that about a circular tension wrench. when i first got in to picking i wanted one but now from what I've heard i'm glad i didn't buy one. i thought that it would be good because you can set the tension and it would stay on that pressure. but I've since learnt that its good to use a normal one because you can adjust the pressure according to pin etc.

I will say though it is fun for locks that can be raked with one stroke. Just let it hang then rip it out and it falls open. Its fun to me, but yeah i need to feel the lock to see what is happening, especially when it comes to security pins. The circular wrench is a waste of money you say? that sucks, i was kinda intrested in getting one...
