When picking a padlock...

didn't touch the pickgun... Yelled at the lock once and it popped open, but my hands had lost control and i had a diamond and tensioner in my hands.

I picked me step dads vriefcase last night, im well glad its only like a 2 pin lock and theres two, but i still think its an achivment because i use a paperclip and a file (as tention tool)

Congratulations on opening your first lock! Anytime you're able to open a lock I consider an achievement. BEst of luck when you get your new picks...you'll definitely have more fun and success using proper tools.

Hi,
I am a newbie..
My Southord PXS-17 set arrived today, I picked the padlock (riveted steel thing) on my outhouse door.. first time took about 30 seconds and now I can do it in 4 seconds every time, not the best security is it?

So i turned to the Master No. 140 (one of a pair with matching keys).
2 hours and still not got into it.

My 16-year old daughter spent 5 minutes on it; half-raked and half pin selected and got in.

A quick question, does the master 140 have any locking pins, was she just lucky (hasn't done it twice), is there a recommended technique for this particular lock type? and can i kill her if she says "I am the champion" ... just one more time?

the mole, master 140's have been discussed many times, search for "master AND 140" (without qoutations, but with that AND in caps), and you'll find many threads pertaining to it. i found this one: viewtopic.php?t=2127


i think what you meant by locking pins was Security pins, and yes, alot of people have been running across security pins in master no. 140's. Your daughter probably couldn't repeat the process without alot of luck...

basically, what happens is, the security pins gives away and the plug will turn alot more then normal... you think it's set, but it's far from it. to get around this, apply very light tension, and push the pin up even farther... should set again.

look at some security pins, and you'll understand why the false set so the lock won't open. the MIT guide goes over some (search this forum for a link for it, and read it 5 times over)

I meant security pins, (i think) I was referring to the pin2 and pin4 i read about fitted in Yale locks..
I had been at the same lock for a few hours and I was fuzzy headed so I could have meant anything... I had experienced exactly that, click a pin and the lock moved a bit more then nothing.

I am now VERY happy to say i beat it. It took about 10 minutes this evening, and now I have beaten it a half dozen times. each time a little quicker. using a SP04 pick (the double round ended one ) that looks like this

I did a mix of raking and random picking to get in.

Just so you know the SP04 pick, is commonly referred to as a double ball. The half diamond, well thats just that little triangle. Hook generally refers to the smaller of the two SouthOrd hooks.
