Peterson Picks.

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

sorry for a bit of thread hijack by a noobie here, but I'm also running into a "problem" with the peterson site. I'm looking to build my own starter set, but can't find the simple twist tension tools I want anywhere on their site. They have a make-your-own tension tool set, but it's many times more than what I need as a beginner.

Am I simply that blind, or do I have to go elsewhere? The peterson tools were highly recommended to me, but I don't want to have to order picks from one place and tension tools from another. Anyone have any suggestions?

To the best of my knowledge, Petes does not sell regular tension tools. They're easy enough to make if you don't feel like paying shipping for just a wrench from someplace else.

maybe the homemade tension wrench is better, i have made a lot of them...much better than Southord and Peterson's.

try winshield wiper blade...they are the best.

by the way... the tension wrenchs come with Peterson's pick set are no good.

THe tension tools that come with Peterson sets are wonderful. Very easily bent, but yet strong steel, comes in a variety of widths.. easy enough to machine to what you like.

well I tried to order from peterson today and, for some reason my order would not go through, so I called them up talked with the one dude, and I have to say he was very nice but then asked me if I was a certified locksmith. I had to say no and that I was just in it as a hobby, he said thay his policy was to sell only to locksmiths. which I understand where he is coming from. but oh well. I had gotten my self so exited.

Peterson Picks

Postby NobleNewbie » 30 Mar 2004 12:19

I just received a set of peterson picks I ordered on saturday. That's pretty impressive, only 2 buisness days! When I placed the order I had to give my ALOA number and association, which got me a little worried since I'm not a locksmith and I don't even know how many digits are in an ALOA number. However I just made up a number and everything turned out OK, I guess they don't check the orders very carefully.
I ordered the "Just Picks - Rubber" set for $18, and a pair of double pronged tension wrenches for $5. I haven't tried any of them out yet but they seem to be of high quality. My only complaint is there lack of selection of tension wrenches.

P.S. This is completely off topic, but I'm a complete newbie but the other day I picked a door lock on my very first attempt in less than a minute. I had just received one of those jackknife style picks and one of my friends locked himself out of his dorm room, so I gave it a try using the snake rake. I did not expect to be able to pick it at all, and it was quite a rush! I guess it was mostly beginners luck.

Peterson has a wonderful selection of tension tools, you just need to know what to buy. The U-bent it kits give you something like 20 or 30 strips of steel and a tool to bend them however you would like.

The problem is that I don't want to spend $20 or more for a large amount of tension wrenches when all I need is 2 or 3 various sized wrenches.

Trust me, you'll need more than two or three tension wrenches....

I have about 10 different tension wrenches that see regular use, and about 10 more special ones. I am also currently looking into making about 30 more.

Peterson wrenches disapoint me, they just are not as strong as south ord. I prefer street sweeper bristals bent in one place 45 degrees and again very close. Work better than peterson tools/

Hmmm...so let me get this straight...you lied about being a locksmith. You lied about being part of an association. You were worried about being caught. And now you want help?

I don't think so.
