my pocket set homade 100% metal construction *Pics*

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

This is actually preety old I made this set months ago this is my third set of pics I own, the first is a magestic brand with all the basics that I learned with my second is compleatly homemade 25+ peice set made up of everything I could find but, I wanted a smaller set I could carry around in my back pocket/glove box for emergencies.

Its entirely made out of 6061 aluminum except for the hardware one 6-32 thumbscrew and a steel thread insert in the aluminum body. (aluminum doesn't wear as strongly as steel) I can safely say you could throw the thing down some concreate stairs and not have a problem other than all the scratches it would pick up. Its especially designed to protect the tips of the picks it might even stand being run over by a car although I'm not anxoius to take that test.

The set includes two tension wrenches large and small one "jimmy tool" I made for brainless emergency entry, one hook, one diamond, one large half diamond, one small half diamond and one rake.

the depth was specifically made to hold at least 3 more picks if I should decide I need to add more picks for any specific purpose but the set is so supposed to be everything I use, when I pick and nothing extra.

Shrub: Ive sorted your links out,
If you can't make it work try yelling "aww d*****t!" and throwing your tools it never worked for my pops but it entertained me :)

Very nice machinist, looks really good and compact. Roughly how long and wide is it?

thanks

4.460" long
.650" wide
.500" tall

the channel is .500" wide making the wall thickness .075" the "floor" is .200" thick the picks are about .480" wide at the handle for a .020" sliding fit. The thumbscrew protrudes about .080" above the body when tightned down.

Hmmm, about the same as a medium sized pocket knife, very good indeed and excellent job. :)

Kaotik, that was exactly my intention about the same size as a pocket knife.

unbreakable, yeah I love the diamonds, the first lock I beat was with a half diamond and really prefer to rake with them I rarely use anything other than a hook or half diamond.

Thanks to everyone for their comments.

It sounds like the aluminum will be fine, but I'm still interested to know how it holds up to normal use. Do they feel much different to use because they have less mass than steel picks?

Gordon Airporte, actually the picks are 100% carbon steel made from run of the mill hacksaw blades, the only thing different about them is a hole drilled so a thumbscrew can pass throught hem and hold them in place while in storage, the hole is only about 1/8" so it causes no noticable difference in flex or feel.

Heres a video of me struggling witht the overtightened thumbscrew lol
the video is 1.44 megs

Yeah - that IS some nice picks really. I like how it's the size of a jackknife set but you still have alle the individual picks so you don't lose feeling. And you also have more than one tension tool ---> something that was missed badly in the jackknife.
