There is a vast amount of material here that you can draw on.
More than a few people have written tutorials on how to make pics. At least one member has made a video concerning the process and there have to be more than a few templates that you can print showing you the size and shape of comercial picks.
As another poster mentioned, Raimundo's "bogota" picks are a great solution to the problem of lacking material and tools. While you will always get better results with better tools, you can make the bogota picks with a single flat file and some sand paper.
Once you know the basic shapes, look around you all the time and let your imagination suggest new ideas. You will find things that can be used as picks, or as material to make picks all over the place.
I have this to say about grinders and files. Grinders may be faster, but beginners will always get better quality with files because they have to go slow. This gives them time to think about each stroke of the file, and how it will effect the shape of their pick.
I wish you all the best of luck in making your tools, and I hope you keep finding new challenges.
