Pickset off of Romstar's Template

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Pickset off of Romstar's Template

Postby the_real_ninja » 15 Jan 2007 17:37

These picks were made off of Romstar's 17 pickset template, although i didnt make the ball picks. I still havent finished sanding half of them as you can see, and its starting to become a real bother to do it. If anyone has any tips on how i can get the paint of faster thatd be greatly appreciated  . Anyways, please comment on my picks, this is the second set i have ever made.

It would be faster to use chemical paint stripper to get it off. Be kind of a waste though to buy a whole can for a few measly picks.

taking paint off

Postby Peter Martin » 16 Jan 2007 10:38

Use a wire wheel in your hand drill to get the paint off. I chuck the wire wheel into my drill and place the entire thing into my vise. Next best thing to having a wire wheel on a bench grinder.

Good job on the picks.

I use a stripping wheel sold by Dremel, which is basically two pieces of Scotch Bright pads attached to a mandrel, works very fast and lasts a good while. They come in course and fine one of each in a package and can be found at Wal-Mart and some other Dremel accessory suppliers.

A can of auto paint stripper works wonders, but can be kinda pricey depending on what brand and area you live in. If making alot of picks, it would be worth it.

I bet brakeclean would take the paint off or at least loosen it so the wire wheel would take it off easily.

It's times like these where i wish i had a dremel :( . I've made all of these off of my bench grinder and have had to hand sand the paint off all of them so far.

my desk grinder has a steel bristle wheel on the other side for polishing metal so i just use that to get the paint off, does it in about 20 seconds per pick.
