HPC computer generated picks VS mushroom or spool locks

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

HPC computer generated picks VS mushroom or spool locks

Postby yungning » 16 May 2004 0:09

how good are those computer generated picks on picking spool or mushroom pins locks?

the reason i ask is becasue i made one computer generated pick, and it is able to pick most of the locks i have, such as master no.140, no.930, no.532, brinks shakle padlock.

becasue of the success on picking those locks, i have been thinking to make the rest of those computer picks. (don't have money to buy, got to make by myself)

i'd like to hear people's opinion about them before i spend a lot of time to make them, thanks.

Computer picks

Well, I really like them, and they are an excellent addition to any set.

However, there is nothing magic about them. They aren't doing anything that pin by pin picking can't do.

The benefit comes when you know the proper way to make them aproximate a key profile. They were designed almost as try-out keys.

Insert the proper pick, move it around a bit while lifting it, and applying the proper amount of tension and the lock opens. Sometimes it happens instantly, other times it takes a few seconds, and sometimes you have the wrong pick.

Either way, they are a fun and useful thing to have.

Yes they are fun. I haven't tried them on a large number of locks with spools yet. Thanks for the info Romstar
