You'll find that a lot of picks can and will be recommended for use. It's basically up to the individual that's doing the picking. Some like the expensive picksets some prefer the cheaper HPC's or as a lot of the users here will attest they love their own homebrew picks.

Happy picking

If you're opening pin tumbler locks then I reckon you want 3 lengths of hook pick and a few different widths of tension tool and you'll be fine. I don't really like diamonds that much personally but some swear by them. Maybe get a cheap set of picks online and try them out and then make the ones you get along with best?
The more things sent to try me, the harder I will try. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

just do a bit of research dude, look on websites that sell them and look at their most basic set. Figure out what types of pick you want to make then look on my sticky (:D ) to find templates. THe link for that is viewtopic.php?t=17326&highlight=

I assume you know were to buy picks from? the basic southord set would be a good set to get ideas from.
This is the link:

You probably dont need the ball, instead I would make another hook. But this does depend on you, and what your picking.

Yeah i probably just spoon fed you a bit much but what can I say? Im a nice guy

If your just starting out I would go for a hook, and a half diamond. Youll learn the most from those, they emphasize the skill of picking rather than the dice game of "raking".

A hook pick a small half diamond, and a snake rake for starters. 1 regular tension wrench and one "twisty" tension wrench sould set you on the right track.

The best picks you can have.

All you really need is a Basic Tension Wrench and A "finger" which is the hook pick and you can add a "S" rake. I mean if you are just a beginner these tools are all you really need.
