I'm learning how to pick locks right now. I started last night, and tonight I finally picked my back door. It was very frustrating when I'd have one pin left, then I'd f*ck up and all the pins would reset. Now, back on topic, do you know what im using for tools? A bent paper clip as a pick and a thin fold-up nail file as a torque wrench. Being 15, I don't currently have the money for a nice lockpick set, and those were the only things I had around. They did the job just fine. The tools are not really that important for basic locks, you just have to spend many hours learning.

well people learn their own technique different ways. i guess if you learned to pick with pin, nail, and/or a paperclip then thats your technique...its how you learned. i however love making my picks and to me the fact that you made them shows a feeling of accomplishment and a sort of elegance/class.

I've successfully picked two out of the three pin tumbler locks I've attempted. The first one, I picked with a very small flathead screwdriver as a torque wrench, and a very fine micro hex-head driver as the pick. The second lock I picked was with two ordinary paperclips, slightly modified.

The moral of the story is, what you use to pick the lock is a matter of preference. Anything hard and malleable or able to be shaped to fit into a lock is fine. I like to use a small paperclip as a torque wrench because it is naturally springy, which helps to keep the constant tension. Spend some time gathering potential pick materials and then try them out. You'll be surprised at what you can do with what's lying around your house.

:D hi i made my first pick out of a hack saw blade i just copyed the shape from one i saw on the net i also used a hacksaw blade as a torque wrench they work great but as with most things in life practice makes perfect so keep trying you will get better (i have a 5 pin pad lock at home that i can pick in 3 seconds flat. it has taken me 3 weeks to get so quick but when i start on a new lock it can take a while to get the feel of that lock. ramble ramble ramble. :D

I tryed using a hacksaw blade yesterday to make a pick and it turned out horrable. I make all my tensionwrenches and picks from the tempered steel of winshield wiper blades. The stuff works perfectly and can be made within a minute with just a file. heres the results of my rake I use it all the time and works just as good as the set my friend bought. Image
I just started this one and it needs a bit more. http://onlcmp.org/lock/where.html

hacksaw blades are the best for making lockpicks i made my own and they look shitty but they work. if anyone wants to see them then pm me for a pick. Also if you cant seem to make picks right check out pyros video thats how i got started making picks. Hacksaw blades are cheap and all you need to make picks with them is a grinder and for tension wrenchs you need a blow torch . it is very easy.
