X-Acto Knife Picks

I was browsing though the thread that has the list of pick pics (excuse the play on words) and I saw some that were made with what appear to be X-Acto knives. I was just wondering if they used the actual X-Acto blades of if they are just using the handle, and some techniques for making picks like this, and if they work good.

I think most of those use something like feeler gauge (check the auto parts stores) or maybe wiper inserts. I would definitely not use real blades. They tend to be brittle and snap under pressure. Grinder + razor-sharp blades + pressure = bad idea

i just started to use the xacto knife handle and insert my picks in the knife slot, then get pliers and tighten the hell out of it. i think the handles feel really comfortable, but i need to buy more handles, but i dont know were

Your entire pick fits in there? Or you ground them down to fit? I too like the handle, much less slipping and better "feel" IMO.

You can find the handles at any home improvement store (like Home Depot/Lowes in the USA). You can also find them at art supply stores, although there is a good chance they'll be more expensive. I've never seen the handle alone, only with blades so that's likely the only way you can find them.

there are different size x-acto handles. im sure you can find one that you can fit a short handled hacksaw blade pick or similar pick into
