Review of Brianp's Homemade Tools (Vs. LN)

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Review of Brianp's Homemade Tools (Vs. LN)

Postby dougfarre » 11 Feb 2008 21:00

Here is a picture of the tools from brianp that I got in the mail today. I have picked about 8 locks in the past hour with them.

I paid only $20 for those three picks. Im not sure how much Brianp is charging now for his picks, but that is a hell of a deal. Personally, I would choose homemade picks over commercially made picks anyday.

So you have an idea of what kind of tools I have experience with, I will tell you what kind of picks I have in my arsenal:
Rytan - Dyno - Lockmasters - SouthOrd - HPC...

I use mostly the HPC out of my commercial picks (and SouthOrd would be my last choice)

I also bought a set of feelers from LN21 which were absolutely amazing. I used them every day for several months until all the handles fell off and they lost most of their stiffness. Unfortunately, picks from LN are expensive, and the handles on mine were slightly defective :(. Otherwise, they are worth every cent, and I will probably be bothering him soon for another set.

Now these three feelers I got from Brianp are really top notch. Im going to compare them them mainly to LN's picks, because I think they are up in his leauge. At the end of this I would recommend going strait to LN, Brianp, kaotik... or any of the other guys on the site that will manufacture a nice set for you.

Nice review Doug, very well though out. Thanks for taking the time to post it.

I have a set of LN21's picks and I just ordered a second set that I'm waiting to receive. Like you said, pricey but worth it.

As for Brianp's stuff, I haven't used his picks but at $20 for three high quality, hand polished picks, that really does sound like a bargain. I doubt the price will stay that low for long, but you have to break into the market somehow.

Doug I appreciate this.

And I would like to appologise The problem was prior to I clean the metal with rubbing alchohal, but I belive dust go tinto the handel which is completely my fault and doug was very kind to say it was his aggressive style.

Also I opted to fix them but he said it was no big deal, so he was a good guy about it.

I am currently making tools for BrianP now, and MIB's set are about ready his handels are just getting finishing touches.

I will attest that just by visual of brians, rays, and personally owning kaotics picks, there price is worth it.

You can by POS comercail stuff.. and yes punching out picks can create micro fissures in the metal and you need to sand.

Each member mentioned has tools that will not only visually but functionaly out do and comercail maker.

Great write up doug :)
