Which pick should I make first?

I am new here which tools should I try to make first? Can you give me the templates. Is it hard to make them?

You should go for a: hook, half ball, rakes, and snakes, and as you get better try experimenting!

get a hook and a half diamond and see which you prefer... those are your bread and butter... most people tend to hooks but some prefer diamonds... get a range of whichever you prefer and maybe an 'S' rake... after that you can experiment, if you like SPP and want to try something new maybe a DeForest, if you like raking with the snake, there are a million things you can try... just go for things you like the look of. I hear balls are good for wafers, but I don't know much on the subject.

See if you can get the Romstar Progressive / series 2 templates... They're really good.

I agree. I think that people tend toward either a hook or a half diamond for SPP. A lot of people also like to rake. I think the best of them decide between the two SPP picks and then use a rake of sorts and add both techniques to their repertoire. I personally like the snake rake, though I tend to prefer SPP over raking. Oh, and just for the record, I prefer the hook over half diamond. Try both and see which you like best. On a side note, I have picked wafer locks with a hook and also with a half diamond. I haven't really found much use for my ball pick. Search around and you can find templates for all kinds of picks.

Hooks and a half diamond are the most important. I think a standard hook and a medium hook are useful since it's easier to push up key pins for the high cuts on a key (need to push them up a lot to reach the shear line sometimes) with a longer hook. I don't use a half diamond much unless the keyway is heavily warded or tight making it difficult to get a hook below all the pins.
