Differences in tubular locks

I just bought the southord 7&8 pin and I have two different locks. One has a notch in the central column which the picks work on, but another one I have does not have a notch in the middle, only on the outer shell.

I have seen people dremel and/or otherwise remove the small bar from inside the picks. I'm just wondering....is this reversible? Or am I effectively turning the pick into one which will only work for the latter lock?

You can remove it and it will still work with either lock.

as said above the pin being removed will not hinder the pick, also removing the pin from the 8 pin version will allow that to also work on 7 pin locks as well, i was told it would also allow it to work on the offset 7 pins but as i have not got one i cannot confirm this.
