Need a Recommendation: SerePick’s Bogota sets

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Need a Recommendation: SerePick’s Bogota sets

Postby nataz » 21 Mar 2010 22:22

Has anyone used SerePick’s new “Titan” Bogotas? They are based off of rai’s design but made out of titanium. I’m weighing the options between buying some of rai’s custom work for 30 bucks, or the titanium ones for an extra 5 bucks.

If it was just rai’s v. SS I’d choose rai no problem, but the titanium aspect intrigues me. I know rai does amazing work, but his picks are made out of sweeper bristles, and I worry about their longevity with prolonged raking.

I’m defiantly going to buy one or the other in the next week. Suggestions?

I can't help you decide, but I have both the hand made rai's from serepick.com and the new titanium ones from serepick.com and I enjoy both. The titanium is not hand polished so it is not as "chrome" looking, but it is almost a mirror finish.

Both sets are about the same thickness as far as my eye can tell, the peaks of the picks are the same size for both sets, same spacing, and since all Raimundo Bogotas are hand made, mine happen to have a longer tang and a bit thinner than the titanium ones. I have big hands so I got longer Bogotas. Your mileage will vary depending on your hand and how you like holding a set of Bogota picks.

The titanium picks do have perfectly rounded handle ends, the ones that double as a tension wrench.

I just think its great that they're made of titanium, so I had to own a set.

Personally I'd sooner see Serepick stock all the other variants of the Bogota's, rather than use different materials. Like the 2 hump, Sabana and 4 hump.

They did until recently, they had Rai's new Montserrat <sp?> set. Must have ran out or they weren't hot sellers.

I have been testing and reviewing samples of serepicks tools for a long time as kinda an R&D part of their company... (they have so many cool toys not for sale yet)
I find their titanium line of bogotas absolutly amazing sompaired to every other commercially available pickset aout there... I cant say if they are better than rais or not but rai did help design theses titanium ones... they work extremely well

That's great news. :D Any idea if the sabana and monserate are going to be produced in titanium too?
