Flying Tension Wrench

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Yep I have a second cut 5200, this one sucks bad, the first bind pin is the first pin. I've done a bunch of SPP in the past month and have never had one that the first to bind is the first pin.

american lock can be tricky, occasionally you will find that one is picked and you did not even notice it because the tensor did not indicate it was moving.
after your tensor flys, take a small straight blade screwdriver and attempt to rotate the plug without any backing off. it could be open even with the tensor on the other side of the room.
I usually reccommend to people who try to pick the americans that after a minute or three, of picking try to move the plug with a screwdriver, (too much force for a tension wrench) before resetting the pins to start over.

One other thing to check would be the depth of your tension wrench. You said it was while picking the last pin (which was the #1 pin). Maybe when you lifted the pin your pick also lifted the tensioner. Be certain the tw is not touching the pin. Also rough the tw with some medium grit sandpaper so it might grip the plug a bit.

Yeah, fortunately I solved this problem a while back it was two fold, 1. I was a noob putting to much pressure on my wrench when I had a false set, 2 my Tension wrench would go flying because as I corrected the false set I too preasure off the wrench and it slipped slightly down the keyway giving a small bit expossed when i re applied pressure the plug moved and the wrench went flying,

The solution is I filed down the end of the tension wrench to make it smaller then the keyway itself so even if it did slip both sides were still making contact with the keyway. I am also a lot more experiencd now, that was the big help, the cure all 100% best tool in the box

Practice...
