making picks interesting idea

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

making picks interesting idea

A friend of mine once showed me how to make picks and he used the tines off of a garden rake ... like a leaf rake they are tempered spring steel usually 21 inches or so long and there are several of them on 1 rake . they are similar in size to the bristles on the street sweeper and the rakes cost like 10 bucks at home depot here in the states... just wondering if anyone has thought of this...?

apparently you can get carbon steel hacksaw blades for 50c that would make it approximately 60 picks that you could make out of the blades for the same cost as the rake.

mind you the blades aren't spring steel and you don't get a cool wooden pole with them. could be a good idea!
Oh look! it's 2016!

This idea has been suggested before. The leaf rake I have of this design has the tines a bit thicker than I would like, so I have yet to butcher it.

...and if you want some exercise you can use that pole for a martial arts staff OR cut it in half for kali sticks, OR get a couple of eye hooks and a piece of chain, assemble and you have a pair of nunchakus. 8)

Or you could leave it whole and jam it sideway up the next customer to ask, "Does it always take this long?"

i made my first set from a hack saw blade...i got some cheap one and some that cost me £2.50 i made picks out of both of them but i thought the cheap one made the best picks....most of all i made them and opened my first lock with them...

one thing i must say is look on this site to see how to make them and the other look on the web...

yeah i figured someone had thoguht of it before and my main thought was lots of tines about the right size and shape to grind on for lockpicks - handles ... but hey there is the big wooden pole ... could cut it into lots of tiny handles ... j/k really bad idea ...
hacksaw blades do seem to be the popular medium right now for homemade stuff .... and i figure there are also different thicknesses of the tines on the rake.

yep, hacksaw blades are very nice to make picks out of. But dont forget window washer blade inserts, you can get them for free! :D

Hey,
It has been said before but you can use virtually anything as picks,
experiment to get an idea of what you like best
