Homemade jackknife pickset

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Jerbz,
I was going to do the same as you, take a regular jackknife apart to get an idea as to how the locking mechanism works. Unfortunately right now, I haven't had much time lately. But, if you do take one apart, it would be pretty cool to see what you come up with. I have the materials for my next jackknife pickset, but no time right now.

have made quite a few knives and I thought this old style lock might work for the one you have made.

Get a small piece of flat strap and bend it to a staple-like shape (see "Back View") and drill holes at the ends of the strap where it would attach to the handle.

it utilizes the rivet hole you have and only requires that you use a bandsaw or hacksaw to cut a "lock" cut in the handle and picks while in the open position.

by adding a new hole for your tension key, your new lock effectively "locks" the piece in place when not in use, so you dont lose it as easily.

(as you can tell I like to play on the photoediting software :) )

Hey Kiko187,
Thanks for your assistance with the locking part. You did a good job diagramming on the picture. They're right, "A picture is worth a thousand words!"
Thanks again!
