Looking for somebody to make custom picks

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Looking for somebody to make custom picks

Postby crashman95446 » 31 Jan 2013 0:06

I am beyond the ultimate challenge lock. Use both hands equally well doing single pins or snake as I hate the rake. What I'm looking for is somebody to make some custom picks in the style of A1s as I like the feel and there metal is good. Their handles are riveted sides of steel which I also like. I feel that if it works for the individual it's OK. I have some alterations of standard designs that I would like replicated. I want the same type of feel as the A1 with a little give but springy enough not to bend and a nicely finished but hard handle. Please contact me at jordoncomp@gmail.com and I will send designs for a quote. I am studying to get my certificate as the town locksmith is quite old and is not training his replacement. I'm mainly interested in lockouts as triple pane glass is expensive so the locals would rather pay to get in.

Perhaps it would be more reliable for folks to send you a Private Message using the forum's built in Message system than emailing your gmail directly.

May I recommend a nice set of HPC picks to replace your A1 set? A1, Majestic, HPC, are all about the same design, quality, and feel.

Thanks for your input. I found that the sets are loaded with picks I simply do not need at this time . I am checking around the site to find out how to grind without loseing the temper of some picks I want to modify to better suite me.
THanks again,

Solution: Keep them cool as you grind.

Keep a bowl of cold water, and grind, cool, grind, cool ..... until you got what you want. Nice solution if you're working on several picks is to just keep them all in the water, and just keep exchanging the pick you grind as it heats up.

You should not have to grind anything about a finished pick, sandpaper would be your best bet to customize them to your taste. IF NEEDED, a small file for larger modifications, but you could easily go too far with a file, either way the temper will not change at all.
