Pick Handle Sizes

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Pick Handle Sizes

Postby Dogrocket » 6 Jul 2013 9:48

The majority of the commercial pick's I own all have handles in the 2 1/2 - 3 inch range. When I make picks, I've found that larger handles (3 1/2 - 4") tend to be easier for me to use (big hands).

Is the smaller size a standard for a reason or is it just for convenience?

I think it is for convenience mainly because I've never seen handle sizes, probably for machining ease.

Think that resizing handles would necessitate resizing pick cases, too. It seems that many of the pick companies use the same suppliers for cases, and the cases would cost more money if they were a non-standard size. Of course, I could be wrong about that.

That would make sense - I have a nice Peterson case for the commercial picks, but my homemade picks all live in a home depot pencil case.
