counter pressure tension tool

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

counter pressure tension tool

Postby critmass235 » 26 Mar 2014 21:22

while messing around with a homemade uncoiled spring for a extra light tension tool, i got bored and starting use a regular
double ended one in the top of key way, then put the spring on the bottom and coiled to the to the back side of the other tool
giving pressure in oppisite directions. the regular tool felt the same except when counter turning it had no play at all. I've made
a few different falle safe style one and while they have little play this had none. im moving soon so i sort of miss placed it
but it took like five mins to make the first one. when i move and get regular home internet(not just phone) ill either find or
make one just for that purpose( i made it a little to big but it fit pretty good for klikset and a few shlages). i believe there
while there are tonnes of different picks ,not a lot of innovation(how much springy the tool is and top, bottom or both, is most of it)
has been done for turning tools other than saying more practice(which is true).i believe accurate control of the rotation angle is more important to finding the setting order(which pins drop where) than the binding order(think what happens if u have spool and barrel pins, to the binding order)

I'd be curious to see a picture of your tool when you have time...

Cheers :)

Interesting. I love the concept.

Thanks for the pictures critmass235, now I understand better your idea.
In this picture are you going to rotate the tension wrench CW or CCW?

clockwise. but if your not very heavy handed it works both ways. i even did it with the spring on the bottom (fit better for quikset)

Well, I agree your spring will keep the wrench in place even if it doesn't have a tight fit (looks pretty loose actually) and doesn't take too much space in the keyway. I may give it a try sometime...

Cheers :)

ya but if your not careful when it taking it out it tends to fly(why i thought packed it) ive thought about sticking weight on to try a 1 handed picking but i dont think that has any real value just something different to try. i made a video but my family wouldn't quit nagging about my lock pick mess while i was making the video. its just my living room table is the best spot i had to mount it (all i have is a c clamp) as for making it,just get some spring wire(i uncoiled one) wrapped it around a old t-tool i cut in half and cover in electric tape. the loop is where i didnt feel like cutting it off(i was going for super light t-tool at first) and that normal t-tool is normally very loose. i find using 2 fingers work best (pointer and thumb) both the top and bottom were serrated

i just made a one piece one (like 30 mins before this post) i like it better then the first. i got to find a camera to take pics (im visiting my sisters house bc i might be moving out of state for a job),but it looks sorta like a raimundo snapper coil(its still top, bottom, trying to make top only but no luck) ill make video this time (im camera shy with picking, but ill give it go) and post some pics when she wakes up and find a camera. its the same idea but 1 piece now. i just ssp a schlage i have been having trouble with, with it( same one in the last pic i believe). I dropped the lock as i was using a c clamp to hold it down and the t tool stayed in during the fall
