Just finished my first custom picks.

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Well... not exactly my first. I've made a few others that technically work, but I'm not happy enough with them to unleash them on the world. These, I think they're pretty good.

Completely hand made, except for cutting the material at the beginning and a quick trip to the buffing wheel at the end. I've been practicing with these, so they're not quite in perfect condition here, but they shine up real nice.

I used a windshield wiper blade for material, since I don't think we have any street sweepers around here. Turns out it's a bit too wide. I can't get the spring on all the way and I had to taper the end. The taper is a little ugly, but it works. I'm thinking about laying the blanks down on some rough sandpaper and see if I can get a better width next time. But until then, I'm pinning these to the inside of my coat with pride.

However, if you're into this sort of thing, watch this space. My next project is a more conventional pick set on a grinding wheel.

Nice polishing, looks very smooth.

Look great. Try making serrations on the tension wrench side with the cutters on pliers by putting it long ways clamping down then wiggling it out. If you need clarification I can give it. The serrations I find help me grab the key way better so it doesn't pop out when you are raking.

Dang, that polish. Nice work! I don't have too much experience with rakes or wiper stock, but those angles look a bit sharp, I'm thinking it would have to be used pretty gently.
